The game began in the worst possible way for the away ream as they went 1-0 down in the first minute but recovered their composure to take the game to their opponents and as a consequence should have ended the half on terms but for the missed chances by Sam Hardwick, Shaun Landymore and Tom Burke.

A shrewd tactical substitution by Newmarket saw Danny Salmons enter the fray and he made enough of an impact to create a chance for Sam Hardwick who buried the ball in the bottom corner to equalize. Newmarket were now right back in the game and were going head to toe with their opponents. Newmarket made 2 enforced changes which seemed to upset their hold on the game and the home team capitalized to score four goals in the last 15 mins against a shell shocked Newmarket team.
