Newmarket missed the chance to confirm themselves as runners-up in Division 15A with an uncharacteristic performance that lacked both cohesion and purpose. The opening 25 minutes were quite even but the home side took the lead when they were allowed a free header from a corner kick then made it 2-0, again following another corner. Chris Palmer had been struggling throughout the half with injuries he picked up in midweek and was replaced in goal at the break by Andrew Judd.
Things went from bad to worse in the second half as Town conceded early on and any lingering hope of a fight back was fast disappearing as possession was being handed over all too easily. After a fourth Girton goal Newmarket pulled one back when Tom Buntings corner kick was ajudged to have crossed the line and for a brief spell Town looked almost like a team. Although captain Tom Williams tried to rally his side with a defiant lone stand two more goals before the end were given up cheaply to complete the scoring. A disappointing end to the season but the boys can be proud of their achievements throughout the year. |

Town ran out comfortable winners of this match in the end yet there was no indication to the eventual ease of the victory at the half way mark. The visitors matched Town tackle for tackle and although they played the ball around well early on they never really threatened Chris Palmers goal. Newmarket on the other hand kept their patience when the ball was not quite dropping their way in the final third of the pitch and were not at all disheartened at the break following a goalless first half.
With an unchanged line up for the second half Town took just three minutes to open the scoring when James Callards corner was allowed to bounce through the six yard box and Tom Williams was there at the back post to head home. George Cummins made it 2-0 on 50 minutes when he cut into the box on the left and placed a deft chip into the top corner from a narrow angle. Newmarket then seemed to find themselves with a yard of extra space to play around in as Cummins and Callard were able to run the ball down the flanks. Chances were opening up through the middle as Lee Newton struck a long range effort against the bar and Callards first time drive was pushed onto the upright by the keeper. Mark Bloxham got Towns third just before the hour then Newton headed in 5 minutes later as Town kept up the pace.
Solid displays at the back from Kieren Raja, Jack Saunders, George White and Williams kept Palmer protected throughout as the goals came at regular intervals. Bloxham claimed his second as the ball squirmed into the net on challenging the keeper and five minutes before the end Cummins dispatched Towns sixth with a firm strike across the keeper to complete the scoring. |

After a month without action Town were always going to find it hard to pick up on the blistering form they were in before Easter but with both sides vying for league honours they produced an entertaining end to end game. Lee Newton had a chance early on when his long range strike looked to be goal-bound but was denied by an excellent fingertip save. Newmarket went ahead in the fifteenth minute although perhaps against the run of play when a swift counter-attack saw the ball fed across the area for Reece Debenham to strike his shot firmly into the net. The home side however struck back immediately, forcing the ball over the line after Town failed to clear. Goalkeeper Chris Palmer and his opposite number were kept busy as chances came and went at both ends and the teams went into half time level at one a piece.
Newmarket started the second half well with Kieren Raja performing well back up front after a lengthy absence. George Cummins had time to place a well struck effort from the edge of the area only to see it deflected out for a corner then Debenham from a similar distance shot narrowly wide. At the other end Town were living dangerously and in the 50th minute fell behind when the home side again scored from close in. Newmarket continued to battle, earning a number of corners but when Ed Pryors flick up in the box struck the right angle of the bar and stayed out it seemed it might not be Towns day. Chesterton too struck the woodwork before the visitors came on strong in the closing stages and it was Cummins who this time found the net to equalise with five minutes to go. The final minutes saw the home side on the back foot though they almost snatched it themselves with the last kick of the game. |

Newmarket displaced the league leaders to take top spot in Div 15A for the first time this season with an impressive display of attacking football. After a fairly even start to the game it was the home side who opened the scoring with a well struck goal from the edge of the area but 5 minutes later Mark Bloxham shook off a defender before finding the net to level the scores. Things remained evenly poised throughout the half and the sides went into the break at one goal apiece.
With Tom Williams moved up into midfield in the second half Town were allowed more freedom to push forward. George Cummins and Bloxham began to stretch the Whittlesford defence and it was not long before Bloxham was sent through to put Town ahead. Ten minutes later Lee Newtons header was parried by the keeper and Bloxham pounced on the loose ball to complete his hat-trick inside the six yard box to make it 3-1. A spell of pressure on the Newmarket defence resulted in Whittlesford pulling back to 3-2 following a corner but Town showed great character to restore the two goal margin within minutes as Newton was sent clear to calmly lob the keeper. Towards the end of the game the visitors were playing free flowing football as Bloxham claimed his fourth following good work from James Callard. Then came the goal of the game as Ed Pryors firm header down for Newton saw him out wide and fully 35 yards from goal when he sent over a looping shot high into the far corner of the goal to complete the scoring. |

Town recorded an emphatic win to close the gap at the top of the table. After a lively start George Cummins opened the scoring with a low drive which beat the keeper inside the far post on 10 minutes then made it 2-0 with another quality strike 5 minutes later. The home side pulled a goal back from the penalty spot after Town failed to clear their lines but just before half time Tom Williams restored the two goal advantage when heading in from a Cummins corner.
Saffron Walden came out strongly in the second half but Town stretched their lead again when Mark Bloxhams cross found Cummins on the edge of the box for a perfectly executed volley to complete his hat-trick. The home side again came at Newmarket and after reducing the deficit to 4-2 were starting to make life uncomfortable for the Town back four. With Lee Newton and James Callard working hard Town were starting to get back on top in the midfield and by the time Bloxham made it 5-2 from Newtons long throw into the six yard box the visitors were firmly back in command. Ed Pryor played a good supporting role in attack and deserved to get on the scoresheet hitting Newmarkets sixth before Bloxham grabbed his second in injury time to round off the scoring. |

With Newmarket still in the midst of their current injury crisis things were not looking up when Reece Debenham rejoined the list of casualties during the pre-match warm-up. Never though has the cliched "tale of two halves" been more apt than in this encounter. Town started lethargically and spent the best part of the opening half hour chasing shadows and defending corner kicks. After going 2-0 behind, a couple of positional adjustments were made and just before half time the turning point in the game came when George White delivered a pin-point cross onto the head of Tom Bunting who was flattened by a defender in front of goal. George Cummins converted the spot kick confidently and Town went into half time with a foot hold in the game.
Early in the second half Bunting suffered another knock and was replaced up front by Mark Bloxham whose movement and pace seemed to unsettle the Willingham defence and it was not long before he had put Town back on terms. Lee Newton, James Callard and Cummins were beginning to find more freedom to go forward and midway through the half a poor clearance by the goalkeeper was cut out and fed to Callard who hit it first time into the net from the edge of the area. With Town now in front Willingham seemed to hit the self-destruct button and lost all discipline as Newmarket became dominant. Slick one touch passing in the final third of the pitch opened up the home side again in the 70th minute as Newton squared the ball across the goal mouth for Bloxham to make it 4-2 from close in and complete a remarkable turnaround. |

Newmarket got back down to business with an important win despite travelling to Huntingdon with a bare bones squad. The scoring was opened by Lee Newton after six minutes when he headed home from James Callards corner but the home side struck back soon after to level the scores. It was Newton again who restored Towns lead midway through the half before Tom Williams and then Callard both sent powerful headers narrowly over the bar following some smart approach work from Town. Newton then completed his hat-trick with a well placed drive to send Newmarket into the break with a 3-1 lead.
Rowdies started the second half strongly and looked dangerous on the break but Town stretched their lead when Callard shot through a sea of bodies for the fourth goal. Newton then turned provider as his cross into the six yard box found Tom Bunting to head into the net. Just before the end Newmarket were caught out at the back as a Huntingdon forward raced through to complete the scoring with a fine 20 yard drive. |

After three consecutive clean sheets Newmarkets defence chose this game against rock bottom Priory to have a collective 'mare' although it was the distinct lack of edge to Towns overall game that resulted in the points being dropped. One minute into the game George Cummins could have put Town in front with a chance he would normally put away but redeemed himself midway through the first half to score an excellent volley from a deep Kieren Raja cross. Although the Priory goalkeeper was kept busy Town failed to take hold of the game and went into half time with the 1-0 lead.
For the opening part of the second half Newmarket looked to have turned things around as the hard working James Callard started a move which saw Raja cross for Tom Williams to arrive into the box but his firm header flew just inches over the bar. The home side were getting some joy from the referee however and were awarded a number of free kicks in dangerous positions. It was from one of these just outside the box that levelled the scores, although a touch fortunate as the delivery was missed by everyone and limped into the net unaided. Newmarket were back in front moments later as Cummins latched onto another fine cross to finish across the goalkeeper. With Town looking to wrap the game up Cummins struck the near post, Lee Newton was denied by the keeper again and Callard squared the ball across the face of the goal in a packed six yard box to no avail. Priory rode their luck and finished the game strongly then five minutes from time a high ball over the top had the Town defence scurrying back and a penalty was awarded and duly dispatched to seal Towns misery. |

Newmarket ran out comfortable winners against lowly Fulbourn but missed a hatful of chances along the way. George Cummins opened the scoring for Town with just 3 minutes on the clock then it was his corner five minutes later that was bundled into the net with the last touch coming off a Fulbourn defender. Lee Newton, Conor Bursford and Tom Williams among others all had chances on goal but the home keeper did well to keep the score down. Five minutes before the break Andrew Judd collected the ball on the halfway line and threaded a defence splitting pass through the middle for Cummins to finish low into the corner for a 3-0 lead.
Cummins secured his hat-trick soon after the restart but Town never really got into their stride as the home sides spoiling tactics interupted the flow of the game. More chances came and went before Newton finally got onto the scoresheet with a well struck effort to complete the scoring five minutes from the end. |

With most of the weekends fixtures postponed Town took full advantage of the situation to move amongst the league front runners with another hard fought victory. Another game played in blustery conditions saw Town choose to attack with the wind in the first half though it was of little benefit to them. A re-occuring injury to striker Kieren Raja meant Town were forced into changes early into the proceedings but still they took the game to the visitors with James Callard making his presence known in midfield and contributing well at both ends of the field. Conor Bursford, Jack Saunders, Tom Bunting and Reece Debenham looked assured in an unfamiliar defensive line up and made sure Chris Palmer was largely untroubled in goal throughout the half. The scoring was opened in the 23rd minute after Tom Williams started a move from midfield which saw Callard send a square ball across the edge of the area, eventually arriving to Connor Pollington to dispatch into the net with a solid drive.
Town had to work hard in the second half as Saffron Walden held a territorial advantage and earned a number of free kicks in advanced positions but still Palmer was well protected by a purposeful back four. Newmarket still threatened going forward and looked to make the game safe with Pollington again going close then Bunting going down in the box under a clumsy challenge from behind. The one goal though proved enough to ensure a well earned win. |

Newmarket edged this closely contested game against a well organised Girton side. A stiff cross-wind made things difficult for both teams throughout, however with good work in the midfield from Reece Debenham and lively front running from strike pairing Kieran Raja and George Cummins, Town looked the more likely to open the scoring. On 15 minutes Cummins ran onto a through ball but placed his shot wide of the post but Town had to wait another 20 minutes before they finally went ahead. Some great one touch football through the midfield saw the ball played up to Cummins who brought the ball down for Lee Newton in support and his shot was tucked neatly inside the far post for a half time lead.
After the break the visitors started strongly but with the hard-working James Callard and Ed Pryor Town came through the early pressure. Callard then nearly added a second goal, clipping the cross-bar after a hesitant defence allowed him a free shot on the edge of the box. Five minutes before the end Cummins almost finshed off another sweeping move involving Raja, Newton and Callard only to be denied by the keepers legs. Girton continued to threaten to the last but Tom Williams and Mark Bloxham sured up the defence as Town held out for a deserved three points. |

With the postponement of the original fixture then illness within the Town ranks before this League Cup quarter final tie Town had a still task ahead of them against the league pacesetters. They got off to the worst possible start as they found themselves a goal down in the first minute but then settled down well into the game. James Callard worked hard throughout in midfield and linked up well with Kieren Raja up front and Reece Debenham tackled hard in defence whilst providing a good outlet from the back. Newmarket were rewarded after a good spell of pressure saw them start to create an opening or two and Raja equalised with a confident finish in the 13th minute. Chris Palmer performed well in goal and made a couple of crucial one on one saves before another good spell for Town leading up to half time saw Hemingford having to defend deep as strikes from Lee Newton and Raja were kept out by the home keeper to send the teams in level at the break.
Newmarket started the second half going forward but still could not find the breakthrough as the home side defended well, and with Tom Bunting and Tom Williams holding firm through the middle for Town there was a feeling that the next goal might decide it. Unfortunately for Town it went against them when with 15 minutes remaining they failed to halt a run that took the Hemingford striker through on goal to score. Although they battled hard to get back on terms, a couple of half chances that fell to Raja were all that Town were afforded as the home side got behind the ball in the closing minutes.

Town had to come from behind to record a hard earned victory. With the St. Ives pitch very heavy underfoot, the playing surface was not ideal for entertaining football as possession alternated quickly between the two teams. Indeed, the conditions played a part in the opening goal when after just five minutes a speculative long ball was launched high into the Town penalty area, and though goalkeeper Chris Palmer was under no pressure to collect a routine catch, the ball squirmed from his hands to drop over the goal-line. Shortly afterwards Town survived a goalmouth scramble but it turned out to be a half with very few scoring opportunities.
After the break Newmarket looked the more threatening side as Andrew Judd and Lee Newton began to get on top of the midfield contest. George Cummins and Tom Bunting put the St. Ives defence under pressure as Town took a more direct attacking approach. On the hour Bunting looked sure to equalise for Town when he arrived at the far post but the St.Ives keeper somehow got across to deny him. Five minutes later Bunting was again found on the edge of the box, the ball broke his way under a heavy challenge and he slotted home to level the scores. Mark Bloxham was strong at the centre of the defence and along with Tom Williams kept things tight at the back but when Jack Saunders' firmly struck effort was again well saved by the keeper, it looked as if the game was heading for a draw. However, five minutes from time saw another scramble, this time in the home goalmouth where the ball eventually fell to Newton, and after taking a touch he hit the back of the net from 12 yards to claim the points for Town.

Newmarket lost ground in the league after hauling themselves back into this match only to see it snatched from their grasp right at the end. With goalkeeper Chris Palmer out after picking up an injury whilst on county reps duty, Town looked tentative and out of sorts at the back without Palmers reassuring presence behind them. The visitors raced into a 2-0 lead early on as Town struggled to clear their lines amid the confusion in the penalty area when under pressure. Newmarket reduced the deficit though in the 25th minute when Kieren Raja found himself space to shoot through a crowded penalty box to find the net. Just before half time the back four were caught too far up field and Willingham restored their two goal advantage on the break.
Town started the second half well with Mark Bloxham brought on to shore up the defence and James Callard and Raja taking the game to Willingham down the left side. Five minutes into the half Raja sent over a cross to the far post for George Cummins to pull it back to 3-2 then soon after Town were back on terms as another searching cross was bundled into his own net by a Willingham defender. With the game evenly poised going into the latter stages Bloxham left the field injured forcing another reshuffle but after looking as if Town could nick it at the end, it was the visitors that took the points with a well struck goal that gave stand-in keeper Reece Debenham no chance. |

Another workmanlike performance saw Newmarket maintain their recent good form. The home side were straight into the opposition and took an early lead when George Cummins was sent through the middle to place his shot wide of the goalkeeper with just two minutes on the clock. A minute later Cummins beat the keeper in a race for the ball but Warren Reddicks sidefoot shot hit the base of the post. The visitors then settled and played out a closely fought first half in which Jack Saunders and James Callard figured prominently for Town.
After the break Town stepped up a gear and began to find their passing game whilst competing much more effectively in the midfield. Reece Debenham and Mark Bloxham came close to adding to the score as Town looked ever dangerous from their corner kicks but it was Lee Newton who thundered in the long awaited second goal. Just as Town should have been looking to kill off the game, a penalty was awarded to Histon. Chris Palmer got down well to his right to save the spot kick but Town failed to react and the rebound was followed up unchallenged. Newmarket however responded well and again went at the visitors, Newton fired a shot against the upright and Cummins drew a fine reaction save from the keeper before Callard put the result beyond doubt when he turned his marker to finish on the half volley with five minutes remaining. |

Newmarket had to come from behind before running out comfortable winners at the Town Ground. After a lacklustre start Town began to make the early running but were caught out by the visitors long ball over the top and went a goal down after 15 minutes. Following this wake up call the home side raised their game and earned a penalty on 20 minutes when Lee Newton was up-ended then duly dispatched the equaliser. Ten minutes later came the goal of the game when some intricate one touch football saw Newton combine with James Callard and Jack Saunders for Connor Pollington to send a low 20 yard drive into the bottom corner of the net. Newton then added a third just before half time to give Town a healthy lead into the break.
Town were dominant throughout the second half and didn't have to wait long for Tom Bunting to make it 4-1 with a bullet header from a George Cummins corner. Goalkeeper Chris Palmers first touch of the half was to convert another penalty for Towns fifth goal before Newton completed his hattrick with a firm strike from the edge of the area. Fulbourns goalkeeper was the busiest player on the park and pulled off a couple of impressive saves before Cummins got on the scoresheet with an unstoppable left foot strike for number seven. Callard then grabbed a well deserved goal five minutes from time to complete the scoring. |

For the second successive week Newmarket ended the 100% record of the team at the top of the league. A keenly contested opening to the game showed both defences to be holding the upper hand. Towns captain Tom Williams lead by example with some tough tackling at the back as the visitors were limited to shots from distance. The deadlock however was broken by Hemingford on the half hour as another shot from outside of the area found its way under the body of keeper Chris Palmer who did well to play on despite carrying an injury into the match. With Newmarket applying the pressure just before half time, a corner was won and as the ball ran loose in the area, Warren Reddick had his shot blocked but lifted the ball into the roof of the net on the second attempt to send the teams in level.
The second half was a more open affair with chances coming and going for both sides. James Callard was unlucky when he rose unchallenged to meet another corner but his firm header just cleared the bar, and Conor Bursford was on hand to make a last ditch saving tackle as a Hemingford striker was bearing down on goal with just the keeper to beat. After the referee had to deal with a heated altercation both sides were reduced to ten men for the remaining 20 minutes but there was still little to separate the teams. Either side could have snatched it at the death, George White teed up George Cummins for a snap shot over the bar and Hemingford were thwarted again by Bursford covering back with another vital interception inside the box. |

Newmarket played host to the league leaders and ran out worthy winners with a workmanlike team performance. After a fairly even start it was the visitors who began to create the early chances but they found Chris Palmer in fine form in the Town goal to pull off a couple of outstanding saves. Town defended well with Mark Bloxham and Lee Newton strong in the centre of defence and Palmer commanding at set pieces. However it was Kieren Raja in midfield who turned the game around when he took advantage of a hesitant St. Ives defence to put Town ahead in the 25th minute. Two minutes later Raja was there again to make it 2-0 and then completed a quick fire 5 minute hattrick with a smart strike just inside the area.
The second half saw Newmarket consolidating their lead with an energetic workrate throughout the whole team. St. Ives though pulled a goal back on 50 minutes, ironically from a rare handling error from the otherwise faultless Palmer. The expected resurgance from the visitors was weathered well and indeed Town could have restored the margin but James Callard placed his shot wide when through on the keeper. The home side looked to close out the remainder of the game and cards were shown to both sides as the game entered a niggly stage but it was Town that ended the stronger with a run of corners and a free kick that Newton crashed against the bar. |

Once again Town were left frustrated after failing to convert their chances. Newmarket were a bit slow to get into the game as the home side seemed to have a man over in attack in the early stages, and found themselves a goal behind after 15 minutes. As the half wore on though Town grew in confidence and were unlucky not to equalise before half time when James Callard timed his run well but lifted the ball just over the bar.
In the second half Newmarket looked a more balanced side with Keiren Raja and James Callard switching roles and causing problems for the home defence. Warren Reddick and Lee Newton bossed the midfield and although Town were creating the openings they still lacked a bit of composure in front of goal. It was goalkeeper Chris Palmers long kick down the middle which put George Cummins through on goal for the equaliser and he finished well with a deft touch over the advancing keeper. With the possession the visitors were now enjoying and despite near misses from Newton and Cummins it seemed a matter of time before Town would find the net again. Time was running out though and quicker than anyone expected as the referee blew time a full five minutes early. Despite being made aware of the fact by several "timekeepers" he remained unmoved but the silence from one side of the pitch seemed to speak volumes.

Town progressed in the U15 League Cup with a comfortable victory against their lower league opponents. In near perfect footballing conditions Town were looking to get off to a quick start but Bluntisham had packed their half with bodies and seemed content just to hold out as long as possible. Although the home side defended stoutly for half an hour, Chris Palmer was wholly untroubled in the Newmarket goal as Tom Williams mopped up anything that came over the top. The breakthrough came 5 minutes before half time following a period of impressive possession football from Town with George Cummins delivering the cross for James Callard to finish at the far post.
Straight after the interval Newmarket looked to have broken the home resistance when Lee Newton extended the lead. The remainder of the match became an exhibition of passing and movement from Town and the only surprise was that just one more goal followed with Callard netting his second on the hour. Although the woodwork was struck three times and Conor Bursford, Newton and Cummins went close to adding to the score in a one sided second half this was the confidence building performance Town were looking for.

Newmarket had to make do with a share of the points as they surrendered a two goal lead. A closely fought first half saw Town making hard work of it and they had to wait 10 minutes before a strike on goal as Kieren Raja went close. Connor Pollington and Warren Reddick were busy in the midfield but with the strong wind behind Town, all too often the final ball carried straight on through to the goalkeeper. With half time looming George Cummins was sent through by Pollington and broke the deadlock with a neat chip over the keeper from the corner of the area.
Town played their best football in the opening minutes of the second half with Andrew Judd strong in the middle and James Callard linking up well with Raja down the left. Raja then put Town 2-0 ahead when from out wide he floated a right footer over the keeper and in at the far post but Whittlesford pulled a goal back 5 minutes later when Newmarket failed to clear their lines quickly enough. Buoyed by the goal, the visitors forced a succession of corners and Town did well to weather the storm. Judd almost restored the two goal margin when he brought about a fine save from the keeper at the other end but an equaliser 5 minutes from time meant Town were back on their heels for the final minutes. An entertaining game with a draw being the fairest result.

Newmarket secured their first points of the season although a late rally from the visitors took off some of the shine from an otherwise assured performance. Town started well and were soon into their stride and went ahead in the 10th minute when George Cummins lifted the ball over the advancing keeper to open his seasons account. Newmarket were moving the ball around well in the attack with Lee Newton, Kieren Raja and Cummins taking the game to the opposition but Huntingdon defended well against a stiff headwind. Town needed another goal before half time and it came when James Callard followed up to volley home on the half hour. Five minutes later Cummins lost his marker down the right and crossed from the bye line for Callard to head home his second from close in.
After the interval the home side carried on where they left off with Tom Williams and Jack Saunders keeping the Rowdies attack at arms length and on 50 minutes Raja extended the lead to 4-0 with a well taken strike. Newmarket were now putting together some impressive build up play and when Newton picked the ball up 25 yards out and drove it into the net the game looked over as a contest. To their credit though the visitors never lied down and pulled back two goals towards the end of the game.

Despite a promising start Newmarket ended their first game of the new season with a disappointing defeat after being reduced to 10 men early in the second half. Town took the lead after just 90 seconds when good work by Tom Bunting put George Cummins through and his shot was parried to the feet of Kieren Raja for an easy tap in. Cummins almost made it two just moments later then came close again when a Lee Newton cross was met at the far post only to pass just the wrong side of the upright. It was all Town in the opening minutes but after Bunting was carried off following a cynical off the ball incident the momentum was lost. Hemingford equalised on 15 mins then added a second to take a half time lead.
The second half was just minutes in when Tom Williams handled the ball on the goal line to earn a red card and Town found themselves 3-1 down from the penalty. With a man down Newmarket struggled to get a foothold back in the game although Connor Pollington and Warren Reddick continued to press forward well. When Reddicks overhead effort ricocheted off the crossbar midway through the half, away with it went Towns last chance to get back in the match as a further two goals were conceded to round off a game that for Town is probably best forgotten.
